I'm two episodes in on Good Omens and it's looking good. Some of it can feel a little contrapuntal with the books (kind of like some of the Sky Discworld adaptations), but it works, it's funny, and it's Good Omens (also like some of the Sky Discworld adaptations).

Also, thanks to the recent Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance trailer (and date announcement of Aug 30), I've been hunting up Creature Shop stuff.

On Amazon Prime (US) I found a small cache of pieces from the 1980s The Jim Henson Hour, and there are two British pieces in particular that I’ve chased for decades (links are for US) that made me incredibly gleeful:

  • Living With Dinosaurs. Every Truly Madly Deeply fan must see this: written by Anthony Minghella, stars Juliet Stevenson and Michael Maloney. Minghella once said he'd never have written a ghost story if Henson hadn’t made him write fantasy first. It’s a kind of Calvin & Hobbes story.
  • Monster Maker. A very British love letter to the Creature Shop. A young boy wants to make movie monsters, and finds a way to meet his American creature-making hero who's set up his workshop in his English town. The Ultragorgon is one of the best Creature Shop creations ever.

    I’d also point out:

  • Both Amazon Prime and Netflix have The Dark Crystal.
  • Starz has the 1987 The Storyteller series (clip). Written by Anthony Minghella and a serious parade of British acting/directing talent. There’s a reason the Henson Company’s trying to revive this with Gaiman.
  • Starz also has the 1990 Storyteller: Greek Myths (clip) follow-up series. Michael Gambon replaced John Hurt as the storyteller.
  • Amazon Prime currently has Dreamchild.
  • Amazon Prime also has Farscape.
  • No one seems to have Labyrinth, The Witches, or Return to Oz for sub, just rental. Or Mirrormask. Just to bring this full circle back to Neil Gaiman.
