The truth is, gaming at this point in time is fine with 8 GB RAM..If you were into video editing, CAD, General Graphics designing and other MEMORY intensive tasks, then the 16 GB would for sure be needed... Since, just gaming and school work, go with the better graphics card to boost your gaming. It therefore means, the N850HK1 wins here..

Acer F5 and dell 15 5000 are both low quality TN panels with poor contrast and viewing angles. At this price point I would say getting a decent quality display is one of the more critical things. It's easy to do, and while pretty much all the other components of the laptop are going to be decent, these are not decent displays. They're not normal for this price point, and just because a laptop is available for purchase doesn't mean it's a relevant option for its price point -- this F-series seems to be a much cheaper laptop base with superfluous upgrades added that bring it to its $849 price tag, rather than important upgrades you should expect like the GPU and the display.

The Acer also has one of those "i7-U" processors. Barely faster than an i5-U, but carries marketing terminology that makes it sound high-end. U-series vs HQ-series means much more than Core i5 vs Core i7. An i5-7300HQ is considerably better.

Why not the Dell Inspiron 7567 with the IPS screen option which was recently added?

  • Pick the $832 GTX 1050 Ti + 256GB SSD base model: http://www.dell.com/en-us/member/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/fncwf514s
  • Pick the IPS screen upgrade on the config page. Stock display is the one people don't like but this recently-added IPS option should be good. In general I will advise against buying this laptop without the IPS option unless you plan to replace the LCD yourself, as a low quality TN panel in this high of a price range can be a definite downer.
  • Use coupon code EXCLUSIVE50OFF499 to make it $832 again. Basically cancels out the IPS upgrade cost-wise.

If it has to be from Amazon there is a cheaper Acer that I would choose over the Inspiron 5577, but I would choose the Inspiron 7567 w/ IPS if you can. Better battery life, for one thing.

Or, if you were to spend the higher amount on the higher Acer, you might check this Eluktronics for an even better type of IPS FHD display (72% NTSC color gamut instead of 45% -- on the FHD model; 4K model is PenTile not-true-4K and also probably out of your price range anyway -- but to other buyers reading this, Inspiron 7567 4K is the real deal true 4K).

I would recommend this [Eluktronics N850HK1] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WGLJYG6/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you need, 7th generation, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 15.6 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, very good heat management, backlit keyboard, and it is within your budget.

Hi,

For photo editing you will need a good display with sRGB over 80% - keeping that in mind I have made this noteb search.

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

A good combination of power and good display is this one: Clevo N850HK1 - the Eluktroniks version has a very good display - with 90% sRGB, powerfull CPU Intel i7-7700HQ, GTX 1050 TI - you can customize SSD + HDD and add up to 32 GB RAM.

You can find it here: amazon with this configuration: Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core Windows 10 Home 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 15.6" Full HD IPS Display 256GB Performance SSD + 8GB DDR4 RAM at 999$

Another option is the Dell Inspiron 15 7573 2-in-1 - with I5 - 8250U, FHD 15.6 Glossy, 262K colors, 100% sRGB, 256 SSD, 8 GB RAM - has a better display but no dedicated GPU and not a lot of space for later upgrades like the clevo, you can find it around 770$ on amazon

Not sure if you heard about the Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro Premium Gaming Laptop, its really great. Pretty decent specs with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core, comes with Windows 10 Home. A 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti under this beast :-) it would definitely run the latest games in high settings. Love the 15.6inch Full HD IPS Display that it gives with a 256GB Performance SSD + 8GB DDR4 RAM which can both be upgraded.

I recently bought this and this is actually the first machine I ever bought and its amazing. The company is fresh, could give you some doubts like I did but I just went for it. Thank god I did and it really payed off. Their customer support is really nice and responsive. You could always give them a call if you need to ask about something

You might have to grab one a Eluktronics laptop then or a weaker system

u/Michiganders · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

That laptop has really good specs for the price. "Its main weaknesses are the display, the battery runtimes and the automatic fan control" - via Notebookcheck.

For comparison, right around the same price range, the Eluktronics N850 has a quad core i7, 16GB RAM, a GTX 1060, but only a 256GB SSD, and the Acer Predator 300 (also ~$1050 when in stock) has the same specs as the Eluktronics N850. Both would have a 1080p IPS display.

If you're looking for more suggestions or are interested in getting a better idea of options on the market, I suggest taking a look at my Laptop Suggestion Guide. Best of luck!

Try taking a look at Eluktronics laptops. They're US based and have a pretty good price/performance ratio. Maybe something like this?

Actually, im looking into the 256GB SSD + 8GB RAM version now because the one i mentioned earlier uses 1x 16GB RAM.
With this model, I can save $50 and purchase another 8GB of ram separately to make it a dual channel system. As for downgrading from the NVMe to SATAIII for the master drive...i dont know if it'll help productivity for my application (ProAudio Priority, i think, is Processor > RAM > HD > FSB Speed (for ext. 7200rpm HDD's) ).

Any thoughts?
Also, if there are any suggestions on which 8GB ram to purchase along with this (i guess for reasons of compatibility from mixing different company ram sticks), please let me know. At the moment im looking at -This Kingston ($63.03)-. I was also looking at this Patriot memory but that wont be shipped out until the 22nd.
