Sure. I have tried it out in day and night, and the video quality at 1920x1080 is awesome in the day, and good at night. It's still pretty dark on rural roads with the exception of what's lit up by the headlights, so it's not perfect. I read during my research that, unless you want to spend $300+ this is as good as it gets for night-time recording. On city streets and other well lit areas like parking lots the night recording is great.

The camera and mount are incredibly light, almost to the point of feeling fragile, but I haven't had any issues. The suction cup has one of those levers, and has not come unstuck from my windshield. The camera attaches and detaches from the suction cup mount by sliding on.

It comes with USB, HDMI mini to HDMI output, and car charger cables (I purchased from this seller on ebay, which took about two weeks to ship out of Hong-Kong, but I was wary of counterfeit products from Amazon sellers). The USB cable is standard mini, and is pretty short so you may need to swap it out. Mine reaches my cigarette lighter just fine (with a 12v to USB converter). The battery seems to be crap, so expect to have it plugged in while recording, which is perfect because it turns on automatically and starts recording when you plug it in, and there is a setting to have it auto power off after a few minutes without direct power.

It has settings for different resolutions (including a lower resolution at maybe 1280x720? not sure) with 60fps vs 30fps at 1920x1080. There are also settings for motion detection (car is bumped in the parking lot), wide dynamic range, infrared lights (I hear these don't really help), auto-shutoff (power disconnect) time, auto-screen-shut-off (still recording) time, etc. I haven't really fiddled with the options much, as it works pretty much out of the box.

You will need a micro SD card. It says it only supports 32GB, but if you buy a 64GB (and maybe 128GB, haven't tested this myself) micro SDXC card and format it to FAT32 with a program like guiformat32, it will allow the camera to record to all 64GB of the device (actual capacity found is something like 59.2GB). I got this one from Amazon.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope that helps you decide.

I plan on getting this one

Comes with a nice speed boost over the regular Class 10 SD cards.

As someone who has recently spent a lot of time researching SD cards for a new GoPro. Allow me to save you a lot of time.

Don't bother with anything less than class 10. Anything lower will not work.

Avoid Sandisk, they work fine for some people, but lots of people have issues with them.

A single 32GB card will provide more shooting time than a single battery will give you, so if you don't have extra batteries and don't plan on getting any, 32GB is fine. However, extra batteries are relatively cheap, so I opted to go for 64GB.

Long story short:
This is the one I went with

That is about the best bang for you buck your going to find.

There are a few (slightly) better cards out there, but they are over 100 dollars.

Hope this helps.

Follow up to this comment for OP:

This 64GB micro SD card looks like a good replacement.

It's by Samsung and its designed for smartphones and tablets. Plus it isn't overpriced like one might expect for an accessory by the same company.

So what's the best deal on the camera and memory card? I imagine since the product is brand new it'll be pretty much the exact same from everywhere, right?
I was just going to buy it off Amazon (once it shows up as in stock) with this memory card.

Any reason not to? Is that a good memory card? It's one of the recommended ones on GoPro's website so I figure it's a safe bet.

I ordered an SD card and it came dead on arrival. I requested a refund and it says Samsung needs to approve it. I then get a message saying do I want to exchange it and my request was denied. I said I want a refund and was asked if I want a partial refund and keep the SD card or full refund and return it. I was cautioned that for the full refund I would have to pay for shipping and it would be expensive since it is going to be sent back to UK. I said I want to do a full refund but according to the product page and Amazon, if an item is sent DoA and sold by Amazon.com, full refund and shipping cost is covered (this is correct, right? Or is it considered to be sold by Samsung instead? I don't see Samsung's policy on Amazon.com).

3 things that bothers me:

  • There are some reviews saying the card is fake.
  • The person handling my request is using nearly broken English (definitely not professional).
  • My request for refund was denied before I even stated whether I want an exchange or refund and the person seems to dissuade me from a full refund despite me stating that's what I want.

Regardless, I'm not interested in reporting to Amazon or contacting Amazon directly to handle this case unless necessary. Can I expect a full refund including shipping costs for this product? If the seller refuses to pay for shipping, should I contact Amazon or can I not expect shipping costs to be refunded? Would Amazon be providing a prepaid label?

Much appreciated. I really don't want to eat the shipping cost for an item that's DoA, especially when it's going to be relatively expensive.

the best place will be online on amazon.com or people on this subreddit may point out places that are having especially good deals, right now this usually applies for the hero 3 black.

Depending on which camera you get there are certain micro sd specifications. If you plan on getting the white I believe you need a class 8 or above but considering the deals available for the newer models I would advise against this.

Getting the Silver you should get any micro sd that's class 10 I think this was the best deal when I got mine.

for the black you'll need again any class 10 but avoid using sandisk as there have been some problems where the gopro limits the bitrate for the very high resolutions.

For the black + you'll need one of the micro sd cards specified on this list

http://gopro.com/support/articles/software-update-release

you can find micro sd cards in store at best buy or radioshack or office depot but they will be more expensive than they will be online, and if you need to get one of the micro sd cards specified on the list, youll probably have to buy it online (I didnt see any in store).

If your getting the black or black+ this is the micro sd I got

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009SK57ZQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

let me know if theres anything else, best of luck

On my Note 3 I originally bought a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1. Had nothing but problems with it randomly "ejecting", even thought it was solidly seated. Per recommendations I got here on Reddit, I purchased the Samsung Electronics 64GB Pro microSDXC Extreme Speed (UHS-1) - which has worked perfectly for 6 months now.

So, get the Samsung card and save yourself some pain.

I have 2x Samsung 64GB Pro microSDXC and am very pleased with them. Never had any issues to report with both the HERO3 Black Edition & HERO3+ Black Edition.

Go to BestBuy and buy this card and tell them to price match this card on Amazon.

I did this yesterday, this card is amazingly fast.
