That's awesome. If I were to build a personal lab I would need a centrifuge (your Dremelfuge would work, $50?), pipettes ($15), a used thermocycler ($500-700), a mini-prep kit ($90), a freezer ($50), an incubator ($100), and agar plates ($1/plate). Maybe $200 more for various reagents if you're lucky. Restriction enzymes, polymerases, and ligases aren't cheap. So for maybe $1000 you can make a full lab. Obviously most of the price is in the thermocycler. It's basically impossible to do PCR without a thermocycler. In my opinion, you're not biohacking anything unless you're cloning a gene. Transforming bacteria with a commercial plasmid would be like claiming Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V is computer-hacking. If that's your goal then you only need the plasmid, let's say GFP behind a constitutive promoter ($65 at addgene or origene), a competent cell line ($100), your stove top, and a bag of ice.

EDIT: Anyone care to speculate on whether you can ghetto-rig a thermocycler? Maybe you can do it in the kitchen if you're crafty.
