We had a baby bouncer- not a rock n play but still inclined. Baby hated it, and the couple of times he fell asleep in it, it just freaked me out and I moved him right away. He did great in a pack'n'play bassinet with a mobile though!
Stuff that worked really well: thick XL over the shoulder burp cloths (great for all drools and spit ups, now that he's bigger great for wiping him after he eats solids), sleep sacks and a foam playmat - the kind with interlocking tiles.

the vibrations worked for my son, but your baby might prefer the swing, dunno. But I thoroughly endorse the whole line. I jump in to recommend them whenever I can. I think it was responsible for 90% of the sleep I got the first year or so. Good luck
