Dump the AM radio and pick up something newer, also keep the antenna wire AWAY from the power leads on the ESC/Motor. You do not want your antenna anywhere near your motor leads for best signal.

Regarding the speed, you could get a transmitter that has the ability to set end-stops for the throttle, (many but not all have this ability) so that the max speed is limited for her.
I bought my 6 year old a Traxxas summit 1/16, but replaced the transmitter with a cheap one off eBay with throttle trim.

Ones that have model memory are nice because you can have one memory slot for You and one for her, the only difference being the speed setting. (Which is what I do )
(I’m also assuming you have one with a replaceable RX, but I’m not sure if one’s that aren’t ‘hobby-grade’ will work with this suggestion, and since I don’t know what you actually bought it may or may not work). Also, you ought to post a budget so we have a guideline
