So you can use "Bumper Jumper" layout with the buttons.
If you are on XBox One, you can easily customize the controller layout, although if you want to play another game, you have to keep going back to the controller customization.

I would consider watching some fairly decent multiplayer youtubers (I dont know any, but if you want to play zombies I can list a few right here: Im_All_Thumbs, Moose Juice (who does a bit of both), and the Xclusive Ace, hes for weapon stats and analysis). Make sure to grip the controller in a way to comfortably move around, and jump and aim at the same time.
Im a PC gamer, but played Xbox One and did fairly well, so with the controller, you should most likely learn to play with the claw grip. Something I believe every person needs on console, is something to put on top of the joysticks. Not KontrolFreeks, but something much more comfortable then the normal joystick, and finding grip on a controller is key. Those are the exact ones I had when I played Xbox. I think this is in depth enough, but also, learn to play the maps, and try to find players you like to play with, and who can teach you stuff. Good Luck!
Quick Edit: If you use a headset, use the volume to your advantage.
