For winter - what region are you coming from/what are you used to?

One of my friends when I was in Chicago moved there from Arizona and is not at all keen on the winters. (I'm not sure she plans to stay there past finishing school.)

I've only been here a couple years, but the keys to enjoying winter up here are:

  1. Have the appropriate clothes. A hacket jacket over a hoodie won't cut it. A really warm hat also makes a big difference, as does long underwear.
  2. Get outside! Join a broomball league, go cross-country skiing, visit the park... people get outside here quite a lot, even in winter. It makes a big difference, makes winter more bearable if you don't see it as some kind of trap. (I find it helps a lot that I have a dog and have to walk her no matter the temperature.)
