Reddit mentions of Gale Force 9 Sons of Anarchy Men of Mayhem

I'm cheating by a a dollar and change but Sons of Anarchy is $16.24 with prime shipping. I've heard it was an under rated gem in the past. However, I had no interest in the show and my collection wavers around 70sh games so I didn't really feel the need to grab a copy just because it was a good deal.

The other day I was visiting a friend and he mentioned that he just finished the show and enjoyed it. Remembering that the game had some positive buzz I checked the price and grabbed it for him. The following week we played a 3 player game of it. Immediately after finishing the game I bought a copy for myself and so did the other player.

The game felt really unique to me. Negotiation with actual purpose. Conflict and tension with Euro sensibilities. Strong theme that doesn't require any knowledge of the show at all.

I need to get it to the table a bit more but I actually think it could be a top 10 game for me.

Considering it reimplements sons of anarchy, you could just get that fantastic game for much cheaper (half as much and free shipping) and live with the difference in theme. If you want to pay double for the theme, go for it - it's based on a great game.

It's shipped by Amazon. Looking at this tracker it doesn't seem to be that the price drop is too outlandish. Plus it's Amazon so returns are pretty simple. I'd pull the trigger if I wanted it, that's why I posted it.

It isn't bad at three players, but to me it's definitely better at five players. I've played once at three players and a few other times at five. After the first three player game, I really wasn't that impressed/interested. It wasn't bad exactly, but it just wasn't a $50 game at that point. Game-play was ok, components/artwork weren't great, etc. I rated it at maybe a $30 game then. After playing with 5 players, my opinion changed a bit about the game-play at least. Five players makes it a more fun game to me. There isn't as much space on the board for five players and things just escalate more. At one point, for example, the river was mostly bodies due to a couple of car bombs. It was just much more competitive with a couple more players. I still think the artwork stinks overall and the lunchboxes are annoying. It's a game I would usually recommend trying out before dropping $50 on honestly...but in general I like it pretty well.

Whenever this comes up I also recommend my favorite $15 game: Sons of Anarchy, which often goes on sale for less and is available at Ollie's stores for $9. I tried this around the same time as Godfather and immediately liked it better for the price. Super fun game even at three players and even though the game-play is a little different, there are similarities and at the time it reminded me of Godfather. It has a negotiation aspect that I really enjoyed.

Well, there's already a board game that's pretty good. Does that ease your mind at all?

If you and your fiance don't mind the theme, you might try Sons of Anarchy. A positive review from The Discriminating Gamer here.
Jon Purkis also quite likes it and believes it is underrated, I believe.
