I second this, but I would use 2 or 3 of them at least. Get a lamp that can house them, or get some direct connectors like these and use a power strip.

I removed the 24-inch t8 fixture in my hood and put 6500k cfls. You can get an adapter similar to this for 2$. http://www.amazon.com/GE-54173-Adapter-Converts-Polarized/dp/B002DN2OEM/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1458161330&sr=8-13&keywords=light+bulb+adapter+socket.
Attached to this: This is less than 2$ at a local hardware store. http://www.amazon.com/GE-50360-feet-Hugger-Extension/dp/B000B75RDW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1458161489&sr=8-6&keywords=extension+cord
I added 4x23 watt 6500k cfl to my 29 gallon. I added aluminum foil as a reflector. So far growth is good with some algae controlled with 10 nerite snails, 2 otos, 1 SAE, and 1 pleco. I use normal excel dose, root tabs, and liquid fertilizer. Heat is not an issue. Even though cfls are contacting the glass. Frogbit grows right under it.
