I have the same problem and I've learned that having a good routine helps tremendously.

  1. Use a scrub exfoliator before shaving... but be careful if you decide to use after shaving. Some scrubs can sting!
  2. Aftershave can really make a difference. I've had a lot of luck with this product that was recommended by my dermatologist (she removed a BAD ingrown hair in that region a few months ago).
  3. Be careful not to shave too often or you could be irritating your hair follicles (keep in mind that the skin in your pubic region becomes more sensitive around the time of your period... Personally, i avoid shaving down there during this time because If I do it is pretty much a guarantee my skin will freak out.)
  4. Try experimenting with different blades. You could try single-bladed/straight razors (I've had luck in the past with these!), super-hydrating 5-blade Venus razors, standard 3-bladed, electric razors or battery powered (i'm trying this out currently)
  5. There's always waxing.
  6. Laser hair removal is the only true long-term fix. (This was also suggested by my dermatologist during the same appointment that I mentioned earlier.) Start saving to quit shaving for good!

I hope these tips help! Good luck to you, my fellow ingrown-haired sister.
