> Not unless you make a gaming tablet with a huge battery and fan
So, GPD Tablet with detachable controllers that turn it into the form factor of the Win/Pocket/XD?
With a USB-C port for an easy desktop/media center dock?
Call it a Switch knockoff.
You might want to look into the GPD XD
The plus is definitely worth it, I'm not sure how more powerful it is than the original, but it has a slightly newer processor and better battery. If you get the plus I'd make sure to get the 2019 version that fixes a hinge issue the previous plus model had. It should handle emulation very well for psp, ps1 and all the older consoles. Game cube even has good performance on the gpd xd plus. I'd definitely go with the plus.
Here's one on Amazon for $235:

Edit: you also might be able to find it cheaper on eBay if you look around.
I wish I got one of these instead of a New 3ds.

The Nintendo Wii U is probably my second choice, The console is hdmi and the gamepad is portable has great capabilities, collector's item.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=wii+u&i=videogames&ref=nb_sb_noss ~$110 Lowest Used price.

PSVITA, The price has gone down and I don't know much about them, I know the memory cards they use are expensive.

I don't even know what to say about this. It has it's own screen.

The DS Lite and original DS Silver take GBA cartridges. The DSLite, sometimes the L and R buttons wear out and it's hard to repair. The original DS sometimes the hinge gets loose, I don't know what else goes wrong with them, probably everything. Plus you can play Professor Layton, or FF4 and Chrono Trigger, or Blue Dragon and Dragon Quest, Etrian Odyssey III, the list goes on.

It doesn't need dual screens to be clamshell....
Clamshell just means it can fold shut.

That runs Windows 10. It's meant to be more than just an emulation box. That same company does make an emulation box with a built in gamepad, though.
I got the 2019 update mid July on Amazon.

If anything becomes really concerning I could always send it to you, right?
And also, I believe if you found a way to fix the back button issue (assuming it's hardware) you could make a great buck as adding that as an opinion for repairs. Man, it's unbelievably frustrating.
Ok I just had this discussion with my friend at work, if you want the best emulation and homebrew your best option is something android based. Check out the Android handhelds on Amazon, specially the gpd xd plus but any cheap android device will probably emulate and do homebrew better than any portable Sony or Nintendo console.

There's loads of portable Android based consoles coming out of China on Amazon that you can find YouTube reviews for
N64 and Playstation emulation has been flawless on android for years and there's dozens of emulators for each of the older consoles with any kind of feature you'd ever want. I think most of the Android handhelds are cheaper than new 3ds xls. I've been out of the emulation game for a while, not sure if there's good ps2 emulation yet, but ds emulation on Android has been great for a while also.
They can have wifi and Bluetooth support for wireless controllers and of course since it's android, you can download whatever phone app on the play store and use it to watch movies, YouTube, torrent files, IRC chat rooms, better browsers and everything. Sky's the limit on an android device.
Loads of android games on the play store also
Shields? Zelda can be played on an nVidia Shield, does that count? :P
EDIT: FYI, those things are pretty expensive now (over $350, used, on Amazon). I got lucky and bought mine new when it was around $200. If someone is interested in something like it (a portable Android console with built-in gaming controller), though, the GPD XD should be comparable and is a better deal at $200 new... :)
