Here are some unconventional, but cheap and generally effective, resources. As everyone else has said, it generally takes work to get out of a mental space that is less than optimal. Not work of the pick and shovel variety, but work of the willing to confront things about ourselves that make us uncomfortable, and we would rather shove under the rug, variety. The willingness to push through aversion and fear. It can be a lot easier to pay someone who is skilled and experienced to do that pushing for us. But you can do it yourself.

All of these techniques are ways to reprogram the subconscious routines that run our life. Many of these rules are written in the earliest years of our life, when the ego is rudimentary, our experience is limited, and so our conscious filters are poor. Imagine that a three year old programmed many of your life rules - a frightening thought. More frightening because, to some extent, a three year old did.

If you use any of these, even as a beginner, you will decrease the negative thoughts you are experiencing. With every decrease, you will have more energy to dedicate to clearing more of them, and toward living your life.

There are many other techniques that can do this. A whole industry is dedicated to helping people overcome their internal limitations. When there were such things as bookstores, there used to be whole sections dedicated to the topic of self help or self improvement.

The most important thing is your willingness to persist. In the low times, in the high times, persist.

Mindfulness is a great friend for any technique, because observing yourself will let you catch the actions, and thus the underlying thoughts and feelings, that are causing you pain. If you aren't aware of them, you can't heal them.
