It works well with my iPad but the micro-usb wide connector does not want to stay plugged in, so I got some black hot glue and made my own janky but super effective strain relief, locking in place both the USB to barrel power connector and the micro-usb jack.
Also for the record this iPad USB adapter is cheap and works well, and it comes in black.

You can get the offical Apple one from amazon: Lightning to USB camera adaptor. There are also some cheaper 3rd party ones, like this: Lightning to USB third party. These may not be as reliable as the Apple one.
