I'm using Hikvision DS-2CD2342WD-I. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DH4NFJI A turret camera like this will reduce the nuisance of spiders. This is a 4 megapixel camera that you can happily reduce to fewer megapixels if you want. I'm using two of these, as well as two older hikvision bullet cameras with surveillance station. Setup with surveillance station was a piece of cake.

Various starlight cameras such as the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE (sold by "empire tech" on Amazon) are also well regarded on ipcamtalk, though I have personally not tried a starlight camera. Really depends on what you need for night vision capability. These are on my wishlist.

Yeah. I installed our 5 Hikvision Cameras + Cable + POE+ Switch for roughly 700 total. (no NVR, we use a NUC with blue iris)

The cameras we use:

I'm thinking Along the same lines that if they mark up the Ethernet that much then they're probably marking everything else up. Because you can get 1000ft for 80$ at mono price.

I don't know how large your house is but most people could probably get away with a 250ft roll which is 20$

Edit: with the Mirai botnet having the impact it did. Make sure any cameras you do get aren't on the list of devices that are shipped with insecure/compromised firmware that can't be fixed.
