You will probably want native serial ports instead of virtual ports that will extend compatibility and reliability. I specifically picked this more expensive one as it can supply power of either 5v or 12v to external devices realizing that I don't know anything about the equipment you will be using. During normal operations it does not require a molex connector plugged in.
