Other musicians spend $150+ for their first instrument and $2000+ for professional grade
Hohner Special 20 is a common recommendation. I did like the Suzuki Manji (although I got a "Low-E" one, I'll probably have to buy a C one to properly review it).
My first serious Harmonica was a Hohner Marine Band 1896 classic and it is fine. The nails bother me when I do maintenance work (I prefer a screw-based harmonica). But yeah, its fine otherwise. If I were to go back, I'd buy a Marine Band "Deluxe", which uses screws instead of nails but is otherwise identical.
