On the one hand, we're the only state to reject Lincoln for President twice. :-(

But on the other hand, and related to today's events, we were the actually the first state to give women and black people the vote, despite what you were taught in school!

Our Constitution was written somewhat on the run from the British (our governor, Ben Franklin's son, was actually a Tory and ultimately got himself arrested, prisoner-swapped with the British, and never spoke to Dad again). Ours became the only colony that didn't limit voting to white land-holding males.

Many thought this was a simple oversight given the hasty nature of its formation. However, the NJ legislature clarified the law, and women and free blacks could vote. Eventually though another law in 1820 changed it and it seems women and blacks did not complain.

But despite what you read about who was the first woman or black person to vote, the real answer was that for a brief time they were voting in the colonial era in New Jersey.

That's why it would have been awesome for this to end tomorrow in New Jersey, the unofficial first state to allow women to vote and women could correct their ancestors' mistaken renunciation of voting rights and choose the first female presidential party nominee instead! It would have been triple amazing if Hillary knew this obscure historical fact and has/had it planned for her speech. I don't think 1 in a 1000 know this story.
