Maybe look into options such as the Lenovo Y510 for $1140. It's not quite as bulky as other options on the market while still maintaining a pretty good build quality and good specs. It comes with a quad core i7-7700HQ processor, 16gb of ram, 2TB HDD + 256gb SSD and a GTX 1050Ti. The 1050Ti would be powerful enough to play pretty much any game on the market, and only the most demanding games will have to be played at reduced settings. It also has a 1080p IPS display, and an okay battery.

Maybe also look into more powerful options like the ASUS F502 for $1200, or the eluktronics P760 for $1300 if you want a 17.3''.

Does anyone have an opinion on the [Lenovo Legion Y520] (https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Legion-Y520-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B06XWFCKYX/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492752936&sr=1-1&keywords=Lenovo+legion+y520)?

It's currently on sale in Costco, in store only, for $999. Anyone have any idea how it stacks up against the other laptops in that price range? Specifically against the Prostar Clevo N850HK1? Here's the specs of the Legion Y520, ripped straight from the amazon website. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  • 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad-Core Processor (up to 3.80GHz)
  • 15.6" Anti-glare LED Backlit Full HD (1920 x 1080) Display
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM / 2TB Hard Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive
  • 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti Graphics
  • Backlit Keyboard / WiFi AC / Bluetooth / Windows 10

I ended up going to Costco today and purchasing the Lenovo Legion y520 for $999.99. This is the build sold at Costco: Lenovo Y520

The extra ram, larger HD, along with Costco's return policy, 4% cash back, and extended warranty for using my Costco Citi Card definitely helped seal the deal. I've only had it about 4 hours but so far so good. What are your thoughts on this model vs the others?

That is not a good deal at all this is the same laptop with the same specs for almost 35 less and If the main usage is gaming then there are few other options that comes with 1060 GPU which is much better for gaming like this [Dell Inspiron] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0764HW117/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) and this [Acer Predator Helios 300] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20).

I think this one is too heavy Lenovo Legion

Same with the one above too heavy Acer Predator Helios

2 in 1 Dell Inspiron

Asus Vivobook

Asus Zenbook

So my main questions:

  1. 8gb ram vs 16gb ram (DDR3 vs DDR4 as well)

  2. i5 vs i7

  3. What gen processor to buy (7th or 8th) and what type (U or HQ basically dual core or quad core)?

  4. SSD vs HDD

  5. If SSD then how much (256gb vs 512gb)?

  6. Integrated or dedicated GPU? (Light to no gaming btw)

Tech engineering requires 16gb ram, 7th gen i5 or i7, and 256gb SSD...

    Thanks a lot btw

Looks the best, but compared to the Asus Strix or the Acer Nitro (that also has a GTX 1050) I linked in the other comment, I'm not so sure.

All of them are exactly 930 USD.

EDIT: I saw on a comment that this one can be found at costco for 999 USD! If thats true that is amazing. Maybe I will wait to come to the US instead of buying in amazon?

This one? If so, then almost certainly, yes. You probably won't be maxing the graphics, but you should be able to run at least medium settings at 60 FPS. If the game is well optimized, then you may be able to run it at even higher settings.
