In case you haven't seen the u/chicklepip rewarded rant on this issue:

>Can we talk about the Dixon Ticonderoga for a minute?

>It is, by far, the best pencil on the market. And let me tell you why: because the little nub of rubber on top of it actually erases things. I'm sure that other pencils had this feature too, long ago, but at some point in history, pencilmakers everywhere decided that instead of a useful eraser, what consumers really wanted on top of their pencil was a shitty little piece of plastic that left a pinkish, streaky mess all over the paper.

>But not Dixon. The Ticonderoga still can actually erase. And for that, I salute you, Dixon.

>EDIT: Thanks for the gold. But for less than the price of reddit gold, you could have bought a fresh, new pack of Ticonderogas and almost had enough money left over for another fresh, new pack of Ticonderogas.

>EDIT 2: Lots of people trashing the Ticonderoga and trying to push the Palamaladingdong Black Wing 602. These cost $1.90 per pencil. And that is ridiculous. The good people at Dixon aren't going to rip you off like that. And you know what? They make a black Ticonderoga that is equally sexy, IF NOT SEXIER, than the Black Wing 602. AND a black Ticonderoga will only run you about 21 cents per pencil, which is a much better deal.

>EDIT 3: Some people are trying to push mechanical pencils. Sure, people can use those. Mechanical pencils are all well and good. But here is why the Dixon Ticonderoga is better than any mechanical pencil.

>#1. The Ticonderoga has its graphite embedded inside of it. This guarantees that the graphite will never slip up inside of the pencil body if you press down too hard, which tends to happen frequently with low-end mechanical pencils. It may happen less frequently with high-grade ones, but it will never happen with a Ticonderoga.

>#2. You must sharpen the Ticonderoga. Some people may think that this is a weakness, but I assure you that it is a strength. After writing a few pages, you'll see that your once-sharp tip is now a dull nub. It's a fine indication of all of the work you've done thus far. That dull nub tells you that you've accomplished something. And once you've sharpened it and started writing again? Boy oh boy, there is no finer feeling that using a freshly-sharpened pencil.

>#3. Sharpening the Ticonderoga releases a delectable wood scent into the air. The wood used in Dixon brand Ticonderogas is of a high quality, and is pleasant to smell. This cannot be achieved while using a mechanical pencil without also purchasing some sort of artificial wood scent spray.

>#4. The Ticonderoga is made of wood. This means that the pencil is always pleasant to the touch. It has a solid, natural feel to it, which you can't get with low-grade mechanical pencils, which are made of plastic. High-end mech pencils tend to be metal. When I wake up first thing in the morning, and grab one of my several Ticonderogas to start the day's crossword puzzle, do you know what I don't feel? The biting cold of a metallic pencil body against my fingers. What a way to ruin a perfectly good morning.

>EDIT 4: If anyone from the good people at Dixon are reading this: I would love some free pencils.

>EDIT 5: The good folks at Dixon just contacted me and are going to send me a box of sweet, sweet Ticonderogas. Either that, or I just gave my home address to a random redditor. In either case, I'll let you guys know when they get here.

>EDIT 6: They came! Thanks, Dixon!

>Just for the record, I don't work for Dixon, nor did anyone from their company ask me to make any of these posts. I'm just a simple man who loves good-quality, affordable pencils.

One of the only companies I happily shill for is Anker.

Their powerline plus cables ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0177NZ59S/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_F1BZzbBZHT3QV ) are without a doubt the best quality cables I have ever purchased and Anker customer service stands behind their products like I’ve never seen before.

I currently own 6 powerline plus lightening to USB cables, the oldest being close to a year old at this point. Not a single sign of degradation on any of them, and one permanently lives by a couch and is used by friends, roommates, and myself multiple times every single day.

I own 2 usb to usb c powerline plus cables for my girlfriends nintendo switch, and the quality is just as good as lightening, though it’s also thicker and more sturdy feeling.

I own 3 micro-usb to usb powerline plus cables, also around a year old, and all three are in perfect condition as well.

I own 2 10k mAh and 1 20k mAh batteries from Anker, and all three charge quickly, produce a solid 2.1 Amp output, and get used most days for things like Pokémon go. Their 10k mAh battery is an awesomely small size that fits perfectly in my pocket, and the 20k one is also small compared to similar packs.

Lastly, during this love affair with Anker, I chose to purchase their new Roav dash camera. This is where they blew me away with their service. First, when I installed the camera, there was an issue with the image being over exposed. I contacted their live support, and in less than an hour they had sent me troubleshooting tips that were very specific to my issue and a firmware update for the camera. I didn’t try the fix for a couple days, but each day following my question the same support tech responded and asked if my issue was resolved. After following their steps when I had time later, the camera worked perfectly. I installed it in my car and used it fine until the rainy season, when I realized I mounted the camera in a bad location, where it wasn’t covered by the windshield wiper area. The mount is a semi-permanent sticker, so I reached out about how to purchase a new one. Again they responded incredibly quickly and stated that they would be happy to send me another one. Then, before I even responded to thank them and accept the new mount, they sent me another email with a tracking number and shipped it to me. So awesome! But it continues; apparently the version I purchased has a potential issue with heat passed 120 degrees, and as soon as Anker realized that was an issue they emailed me and said they would like to exchange mine or extend the warranty another few years!! Incredible! I accepted the new device, and they sent me a prepaid label. So cool.

Anker, you have made me a fan for life and I can’t advocate for your company enough. I had accepted that support from companies (and especially tech companies) just sucks these days and to not expect any better. But man, you have changed my tune.

Woo!

Edit: I do want to add, though, that there is a sincere difference between paying 5 dollars for a 20 foot cable and 20 dollars for a 3 foot cable, no matter the brand. You get what you pay for, and not all Anker cables are of the same quality as their powerline plus product line. You can buy a ‘shittier’ Anker cable. Spend the extra dollars, and happily never buy one of those cables again.

The Sweet Home has a great comparison article on shower heads. I don't know if they really qualify as BIFL, but I bought the $23 Delta 75152 faucet based on their secondary recommendation and love it. I figured I'd use the high flow 2.5 L/min mode all the time, but honestly the 1.8 L/min mode is perfect. The 2.5 L/min actually feels like an absurd amount of water.

Himalayan pink salt is just halite anyway, and halite is trash quality salt, often contaminated with heavy metals, lead, etc, and a byproduct of metal/mineral and fossil fuel mining/extraction. Cheap table salt is usually halite, makes me sick to my stomach and triggers migraines. I now avoid halite if I can.

Heavy Metals Contamination of Table Salt Consumed in Iran

Cheap but decent quality sea salt is only a dollar or two more than table salt (halite) and doesn't make me feel like trash, in fact the complete opposite. Good quality sea salt, harvested and evaporated properly, helps alleviate nausea, is an excellent topical and oral antibiotic, reduces inflammation, migraines, and bacterial infections. Good quality saline keeps people alive in hospitals, is one of the most frequently used mixtures in hospitals. Bags of saline.

The type of salt and where it's sourced from matters just as much as the authenticity and source of honey, for very similar reasons: pure honey is also an antibacterial and helps alleviate some health problems, whereas counterfeit honey is high-fructose corn syrup etc and causes bacterial infections and a host of health problems.

Anyway. Sorry for rambling. Had some sinus problems years ago and got into neti pots and saline rinses and discovered not all salts are created equal.... and tumbled down this \^\^ rabbit hole.

This is a great book.

Kuru Togas are the shit! I use this one sadly they dont sell these metal ones in the US and you have to get them imported from Japan but they feel really nice and the Gunmetal Gray color looks super nice.

Ticonderoga is nice mainly for the lead and as a standard pencil, but the best erasers are the white or black ones found on BIC mechanical pencils, like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FDPDJA

Chances are you can remove them. It’s a cover that they put on to fit with the aesthetic of the bathroom. Use a bent clothes hanger or carefully lever it out with a pen/pencil. Then pop one of these in. Be sure to check the sizing. If it’s a standing shower and the drain is in smack dab in the center, you can probably fit one of these under it to help.

For less than $20, you can hugely improve your life: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LV7W4K. It's pretty astonishing what a good shower head can do.

It's been deleted in almost every thread it's been posted in, but this is the actual actual joke sign in the image:

Kinda wish the mods had deleted this post and not the other one - even if it was karmawhoring and worthy of deletion, it's hard to call out a karmawhoring user who moderates most of the reddits they post in.

I have a letter opener that just slices it open very easily. It's not even about doing it carefully, it's just about using the right tool for the job. Do yourself a favor and pick some up.

I wish I was that talented. I got the rack from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PP2LCU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I replaced the spices with ones I use more often and used small chalk labels on the lid of each jar. Labels also from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQIPBH2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Get something like this. There are some cheaper options but those are the exact ones I have. They work great.

u/kreatorofchaos · 1 pointr/mildlyinfuriating

I have these and they work pretty good. 👍🏾

While most of your cookware should either be stainless steel or cast iron, having one or two really nice teflon pans is a god send.

Also, when buying teflon pans, avoid edges at the top of the pan where the teflon just stops.. These edges are basically failure points for the teflon to start to chipping with basic cooking and washing. Instead, look for pans with rounded edges at the top where the entirety of the pan is coated in teflon. The teflon on these pans will basically last forever, save misuse/abuse.

There's no reason to own a teflon pot. Ever.

I use a pencil that rotates the tip as it writes so that you get a conical shape at the tip of the lead. It helps prevent breaking. The most common cause for lead breaking I think is when you use just one side so it becomes a triangle wedge and when you spin it around to even it out it breaks. See Amazon link here. Keep in mind I've been able to find some at local stores for about $5 per pencil. I also don't lose mine, so that justifies the higher price imo.

This is greenwashing at its finest, they are only compostable in a municipal facility so if your area doesn't collect compostable waste and you try stick them in your compost heap they aren't going to break down. Buy a brewing basket, I've had mine for over 5 years and it's still going strong, one cup at a time.

I own this Delta showerhead and love it to death. It saves on my water bill while simultaneously giving me a more powerful rinse than I had before AND delivering hot water sooner and more consistently than the others I've tried.

Edit: No seriously, there's some actual science in this $25 showerhead. Check it out.

This was happening to my bed too! We bought these and they work great. We used to have the kind that go all the way under the mattress and those were a pain in the ass to deal with when putting the sheets back on.
