It's an absolute trap. Brushes that teeny with water based acrylics make it more difficult.

But teedeeart I hear folks say, it's teeny details so we need teeny brushes right? Wrong!

The thing about teeny brushes is that they dry out quick, before you can get brush to mini. And so you're there lining up your approach into the eye to do the iris and when you finally touch the tip to the eye... nothing. So you press harder until SPLOTCH, half-dried paint explosion all over the eye socket. I get it, there is comfort with the teeny brush, big slips tend to not cause as much paint to go everywhere, but you also can't get those teeny details right.

You don't need a tiny brush, you need a good brush with a fine tip. Far better to get one or two really nice brushes at that price at no smaller than say a 2/0 (like a raphael 8404 or windsor and newton 7) just for eyes and details, keep it real nice, look after it properly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeDwTY7C9xs&feature=youtu.be and use some flow aid to really get them thin sharp lines and details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khaA0gNY-EU&app=desktop

I would recommend a battalion as well as an army book.

As for painting, I found it immensely helpful to paint the figures before I clipped them out of their brackets. The only thing would would need to pay attention to there is that you will need to add a small dab of paint to the spot that was attached to the bracket and you will need to know what pieces you are going to use and which you are not going to use. This was useful for me because you have something to hold on to as you paint (especially when detailing). It also allows you to paint areas that would be immensely hard to paint with any degree of detail or accuracy if the piece was already assembled.
