Not to jump on the hate train, but these are not BIFL. This is in the same price point/realm as skullcandy, and I wouldnt be surprised if it used the same components. Marshall licensed their brand name for these I believe, and the construction reflects that.... look at the user posted pictures on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Marshall-04090225-Major-Headphones-Black/dp/B004BSFSTA

If you want actual BIFL headphones, you want a pair of high end Sennheisers, Sony Studio Headphones, or something like a pair of Grados

I have never used them but I understand they tend to be well built.

Some Marshall headphones, and money for books. There are some gorgeously bound copies of Gray's Anatomy and To Kill A Mockingbird in the school bookshop.

Hopefully I'll have money for CDs. I'm trying to legitimise my music, because I've had an epiphany that musicians like to be able to afford food.

dual monitors are a real big one.

just as important as a good mouse (i have two of these, sadly they are discontinued now but they're the best mice i've ever owned: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BYQDLU%3Fie%3D ) is a good mousepad. accurate tracking, comfort, makes a big difference. obviously if you go the tablet route (which is also great) this gets less critical, but personally i do about 90% of my work with a mouse, the tablet only gets broken out for specialty work like roto or painting.

maybe a good keyboard? i mean with a keyboard once you're at the minimum spec everything beyond that is just your own personal comfort and joy. i've got a das ultimate. love it. makes typing a joy.

also, a good, comfortable pair of headphones goes a long way just for getting through the work day, videoconferencing and doing accurate sound work. i love my current set: http://www.amazon.com/Marshall-04090225-Major-Headphones-Black/dp/B004BSFSTA

if you're primary machine is a laptop, a good cooling pad goes a long way. they are all about the same, pick one with a quiet but big fan and the right form factor. i have two, one for the desk (hard plastic, big fan) and one which is an actively cooled lap cushion (soft material).

If you're willing to go for another $10, these are a good pair. They don't work too well for wearing them in public places, though. The Koss PortaPros are renowned for their great sound and low cost. They're also very portable, as the name suggests. Finally, this pair of Sennheisers is very cheap and has great sound. I personally have the Marshall Majors, and I like them a lot, but they are well over $40. Good luck finding the pair you like!

I just ordered mine from Amazon a few minutes ago. I'm dying to try them.

I've been using some pretty basic Marshall Major and they hurt a lot on my ears because I use glasses. Also I prefer to use IEM's in the office.

My Marshall on-ear headphones I've had for at least a year and a half have started becoming very left ear-heavy (in simple English, the right ear isn't as loud as the left). Does anyone know how to fix this?

Your boyfriend sounds like a cool dude! What about this cigarette holder? Or some excellent classy headphones for the fully-immersive gaming experience?

I would recommend some Sennheisers...I''ve got the hd 555's. A cool note about these is that they are the same as the 595's and all you have to do is remove a pad on the inside of the outer wall. This is sennheisers way of dampening the "breath" for the bass and sale them as a lower model...also I just purchased the Koss MV1's which are awesome, but I feel they require a simple amp and they also seem to need some burn in time. Then there's the marshall majors, which I actually really like.

Sens 555's

Sens 518's

AT M50's

Marshall Majors

Koss MV1

Koss Pro4AAAT

A great headphone resource I use is headphone.com

Good Luck!

I have Marshall Majors and they have been going strong for a year and a half with amazing sound quality. Also they are 50% off on amazon right now.
