If you have some time to go through it, I think this article is a really good rundown for anyone confused by/scared of blush! I find the pictures in it super helpful. For fair skin tones, I would recommend being wary of some traditionally "nude" blushes that have brown/beige tones (like burberry earthy). They can seem less scary than bright colors, but I find that if you don't have a lot of brown tones in your skin, adding brown-toned blush just registers as muddy. I prefer to opt for brightish or pastel colours (they look more like a "realistic flush" on my skin tone) and just use a light hand and a big, loose, fluffy brush like this. My favorite powder blush is Nars Deep Throat, but I also really like Milani tea rose.

If you're comfortable trying cream/liquid products, and have a mid-range budget, Glossier Cloud Paints are really nice and very forgiving (I have puff and beam and I love them). I just apply these with my fingers.

If you're nervous about lipstick, try a tinted balm like this one from burt's bees. Also remember that if you're used to your face looking a certain way, any departure from that is going to feel kind of shocking so maybe give yourself some time to adjust during the process of deciding what you like. Good luck :)

edit: wait, just in case it's unclear, I wanna say that I don't endorse the linked article's hard-and-fast "there is one way to do blush" approach. I don't think that's true! I like blush applied high on the face (igari style) or across the nose, for example. "Flattering" is whatever makes you feel good. I just think it's great to learn the 'rules' so you can break them on purpose, if you want.
