I hereby second "Happiest Baby on the Block" - read the book and/or watch the DVD. I don't know that I agree with the author's assessments of WHY his methods work ("the missing trimester" and all that - seems kind of pseudo-sciencey to me) but his methods DO work. Also, pick up a "Miracle Blanket" (http://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Blanket--Baby-Swaddling--Beige/dp/B000G0L2TM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335367521&sr=8-1) - it's the best swaddling blanket on the market and yet it doesn't get the attention it deserves.

The Miracle Blanket works really well. You can replicate it by taking a smaller blanket or cloth and folding it into a triangle shape with the point pointing toward the baby's feet and using the flaps to hold the arms (see the miracle blanket pics) and then swaddling as usual over that - it's called a bat wing swaddle. The bonus is that the beige miracle blanket makes the baby look like a tiny mental patient.

Totally sympathize with you. My daughter had really bad colic, and half the time it felt like getting mugged. Unlike many of the other commenters, we never found a food that reduced it. What we did find was that a tight swaddle would allow her to calm down. We used the Miracle blanket a lot (https://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Blanket-Swaddle-Natural-Beige/dp/B000G0L2TM), which helped us get a tight swaddle. that would help her sleep so much.

Make sure you and your GF are getting time away from her as well. I found it to be super important with a colicky infant to have some normalcy before getting back to it. It helps with the patience and attitude.

Good luck, and remember that this does pass, even in the worst colic.

My 3 week old can houdini himself out of most swaddles, but not the miracle blanket! It's the only way I can get him to sleep right now. He fights going into the swaddle initially, but then he loves it and sleeps well.
