Ah, finally something I can chime in on. I've had it on and off for years at this point.

The first wave typically is the worst, with itching so bad that it'll wake you up at night. Bringing up your carbs slightly (as in going from 10g to 15g) is the easiest fix.

The more complex method is to go through a course of Doxycycline however with a few weeks, you're likely to notice it will come right back (though with each resurgence it's never as bad as the initial wave).

The trick I'm using right now that seems to work really well is tons of probiotics. It seems to really make a difference (BioK+ is what I have locally, but you can't take too much as they do have some added sugar in there). Any strong probiotic supplement might show some improvement, but it really comes down to trying and seeing what sticks.
/u/MondayIn has a good insight also - ox bile pills seem to do something to improve it (I take them also!).

If you're in the experimental mindset and want to try something that might work as well; try "Mother Dirt" probiotic skin spray - I've heard some good things about it.

Overall I haven't found the "fix" myself for it (if there's someone who has more insight, I'd love to hear it), but it does dial down after a while. Do make sure to drink lots of water - in my case it tends to get far worse with dehydration.

Good luck!

I'd recommend this stuff too, it's a heavily researched skin probiotic:

All the antibiotics mess up our biome. I did a clinical trial of that and if cleared my lingering adult acne.

This is the company behind it, clinical trial press release

I'm coming up on my 1year anniversary of stopping entirely using soap. (sounds weird,. but stick with me)

I had a long childhood of skin issues (eczema, rashes, dry spots, etc). I also had a long history (well into my 20's and 30's) of having body-odor issues. Unfortunately.. I ended up figuring out that I was causing most of it myself,. by OVER-using various harsh soaps and multiple deodorants and body-sprays,etc. I was damaging my skin so much,. it was exacerbating my skin allergies and eczema and amplifying the bad bacteria (which is what was causing all my body odor problems).

After feeling like I'd nearly exhausted nearly every over-the-counter and prescription thing I could try,.. I decided to take an entirely different and radical approach:

  • I still take the same amount of showers,.. but literally the only thing I use is cool water. That's it. I rub my body down,. and stay in there long enough to rinse the surface clean,. but that's it. I don't over do it.

  • I also occasionally use this product: Mother Dirt AO+ Body & Skin probiotic (https://www.amazon.com/Mother-Dirt-Probiotic-Spray-Preservative-Free/dp/B01JQRY5XA ).. which is a "good bacteria" (Nitrosomonas eutropha) that consumes ammonia (bad body odor) and helps balance your skin biome. I used to use it every day (at the beginning).. but now many only a couple small/light sprays every 2 or 3 days.

It's been a shocking flip in my skin health and nearly eliminated my body odor. (the only time I get slight odor now is if I work an incredibly hard day, like 12 to 14 to 16 straight hours of physical exertion/sweat to the point where my clothes are dripping wet. All my eczema and skin rashes have gone away. The vast majority of days (even with moderate physical activity).. I can still come home at the end of the day and not smell hardly at all. It's so bizarre and non-traditional,.. honestly it's still kind of blowing my own mind.

I still wash my hands after using the bathroom,. and I still use Toothpaste and mouthwash. Those are the only soap-products I use directly on my body any more.

I've heard people say that using this product instead of soap has cleared up their skin.

I use this shower replacement stuff on my skin and hair twice a day. It's live bacteria that eats ammonia in my sweat and turns it into nitric oxide. I still shower, but it's usually a quick rinse after the gym or hiking. I use very little soap when I do shower, usually Stirling. Never wash my hair and haven't for about two years, the bacteria takes care of that, rinse it once a month. I do have one of those natural loofahs I exfoliate with every once in a while, but it's not really necessary to care for my skin anymore. I don't even need lotion now.

Bacteria > soap
