Super excited for my first build but I think I made a mistake. I recently purchased this ram (G.SKill TridentZ non AMD) for my Ryzen 2700x build with this motherboard (MSI X470 Gaming Plus). I didn't realize the RAM was optimized for Intel until just now (Darn holiday sales). Should I return the RAM and purchase the one optimized for AMD or will this be alright?

Regarding RAM, amd is a little more sensitive to speed. You can read all about it, but basically you should buy some ram that's advertised as 3200MHz and easily OCs to 3600MHz since that's the sweet spot for total system performance leverage. Check out buildapcsales subreddit for the 16gb "on sale kit of the week." Usually some ballistix for like $70

I don't really know enough about the motherboard to understand the status LED's / Qcodes (this is my first build, not really sure what to do)

I'm in the process of reinstalling windows, and will update if that helps. Again, the build did sometimes boot properly, and I encountered no problems after the boot itself when I was using it.

I think the cooler is overkill unless you plan to get into serious overclocking. The 2700x comes with a decent cooler.

I'm running a Ryzen 2700x with an RTX2070, and I'm finding it to be a great combo for VR and flat games

I just installed a 2060 into my computer and everything went fine. I was getting decent FPS in games, and enjoying it. Then out of nowhere I BSOD - and start to worry. I wait until the shut down, then as the computer is booting the CPU fans rev up very fast. I get onto my desktop and notice the cpu temps exceeding 90C almost 100C at some points, I believe I did break 101C one time.

I immediately turn my computer off - go into the bios, and set the core volt from 1.45 to 1.15 (I had 1.45 for around 3 years)
That took care of the temperate issue.
Then out of nowhere both my monitors, AND usb devices were going off as if my computer were sleeping. The fans / lights on mobo stayed on - the GPU fans stayed on. I'd be forced to turn it off, and turn it back on.

Well I go into the bios again and turn "XMP" off which had my previous profile set for my OC'd ram.
I also switch down to the bottom pci-e slot on my mobo as well. This makes me suffer 10-20 frames, so that sucks.

I have re-installed the drivers after DDU'in the old ones for my gpu. I am on the latest version of windows (as of yesterday)
I've reseated EVERYTHING on my mobo besides the mobo its self. That'll be the last resort - just removing it completely, and checking the standoffs if the problem persists.

I've also changed the PSU out from my previous 550W EVGA PSU to my extra thermaltake 550W PSU

Some additional things I'll troubleshoot if the problem persists is resetting the bios to default entirely, and reinstalling windows.
I'm pretty distraut still about this and completely unplugged the HDMI monitor I typically use, and I'm currently only using the display port.

Update 2 : Just ordered a new mobo. A buddy suggested the vrms on my board could be fried. About 6 months ago I spilled a couple droplets in my PSU (now replaced) and on top of the GPU...some must of got on the mobo. Also, when I had my AIO installed I accidently knocked it loose and it almost ripped out the entire socket. Thankfully nothing seemed damaged. This happened around 9 months ago.

Overall since I can game at 1440P at a really good FPS and keep my gpu at 55-60C MAX ... and my ryzen 1700 staying under 65C max we came to the conclusions the very unfortunate mishaps I had ended up frying the vrms. I'll continue to use my machine as lightly as possible to see if it has any issues with the sleep mode problem until my new motherboard comes in. Decided to get this one

The VRM comparison spreadsheet
has it as being comparable to the B450 Tomahawk but this is a X470 and has two M.2. I'd rather get this for $10 over the Tomahawk unless theres something glaring about the 470 Gaming Plus I'm missing.

I know the X470 Gaming Plus doesn't have the flashback feature meaning it either needs to come shipped with right BIOS or I need compatible CPU to first update it unlike the Tomahawk which you can (50/50 shot from what im reading online) update the bios on it with the flashback feature without the CPU.
