Although I do not have a concrete answer, I did look up what you wrote. Spirulina is used in insect feeders. At the same time, this excerpt (top paragraph) from Spirulina Platensis Arthrospira: Physiology, Cell-Biology And Biotechnology, puts some, not all, concern to rest.
I do agree that there are "raw" foods presented as such by companies, so scrutinizing where and what you buy is particularly important. For example, the time I read a supplement label and ground shellfish was listed. I was so sad and disgusted I never bought the brand again (I digress). For Spirulina, the brand I use, Healthforce Nutritionals, is -- to my knowledge -- very careful with how they source and process their products, even right down to the materials used to house the contents.
So, there really is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer. I really appreciate that you commented about this here :)
