Most bolts in the engine, as well as suspension and steering, actually have a published torque specification. If you don't work on cars every day, a torque wrench is really handy to properly tighten just about any fastener you encounter.

If you start doing much work on your car, you'll probably find that some small bolts, and bolts on parts with rubber gaskets and similar seals use very low torque values and you'll want a "inch pound" torque wrench (usually 1/4" drive) for those, and some larger bolts need a lot of torque and you'll want a bigger torque wrench with a higher torque capacity for those (usually 1/2" drive).

I also find my "digital torque adapter" quiet handy. It's a short extension, 1/2" drive, with an electronic box/display in it that can be used on any 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar to precisely torque fasteners. https://amzn.com/B009GLISI0 is one example of that type device.
