I think I'll end up getting the "Link's Tunic" one since it looks sturdier and the case overall looks really cool.

That's what I'm wondering about also. I'm pulling all my final accessories together on a single Amazon order, and I'm not sure what protector to go with. I want a tempered glass one, but they all ship late. Is it worth getting a plastic one (Example, the PDP one that comes in the Starter Pack) until then? My concern with that is that there will be residue on the screen when I pull it off, after the Glass one arrives.
First one seems to have a more protective case covering, but I like the 2nd one more because of the look, but it has a waiting in stock because of high demand. However I'd recommend if you can spare an extra $10 I'd recommend this

Don't know it that would help you, but the silicon cases for joycons included in this really help me while playing. It makes the joycons thicker, especially on the bottom back, which makes them fit into hands better.
This case is also up now.
Woot, got the two items I want ordered :D $124... sigh. But, on the bright side, I have everything I want for March / the Switch ordered and done with now!

They're sold as if they're the same item but the black one looks like it's a thinner fabric on the outside where as Mario has a thicker rubber on the outside.
I think the Mario one is probably the more protective case but I figure I'd ask if someone knows more.

Unfortunately not. Looked at PDP's site, other sites, no flip side unfortunately. I did find a couple of their stand-alone armor guards:

Both are pretty blatantly photoshopped (that second one is even kind of badly so). So, I don't know if it'll be full or half coverage as they are inconsistent between Best Buy and Amazon here.

So that shows everything, if you'd rather a black case. Those armor guards are full coverage, seems to come with all the bells and whistles that the first Link one has. There's other options as well if you click on the style box.
I'm getting the case with the "Stater-pack" that comes with a screen protector for sure. I am super careful with my electronics but everything that can, will get a screen protector. I'll probably only use the one with the starter pack for the first month or two until I get get my hands on a glass one. I've seen so many people crack their glass screen protectors but the actual glass underneath is completely fine. It's worth the very small investment to protect something much more expensive as far as I'm concerned.
The starter kit is this one in case anyone was wondering. It even comes with silicon sleeves to protect the joy cons. I'm all about keeping my stuff looking new so it's a must have for me.
