Got thin black frames from amazon. https://www.amazon.ca/Ohuhu-Powder-Coated-Aluminum-License/dp/B01IVIH4YC . 11 months old and the finish is still great. I also put felt pads behind my trunk plate to keep everything raised off the paint and avoid any potential rubbing.
I have personalized plates so I wax them every time I do the car to keep them looking nice and provide a bit of UV protection. Now I'm wondering if you can ceramic coat them...
