I've only had it for a week, so here are my 2 cents

Pros:

  • Small, lightweight can't stress this enough. I can carry the OM-D, battery charger with extra battery, mini tripod, and my 3 lenses in this bag.

  • Great IQ, JPEG out of camera are very good (notch down a little bit the noise reduction for better results).

  • S-AF pretty good (not mid range DSLR level, specially on non contrast subjects but very close)

  • Very FUN to use. I actually want to take this camera out every time I leave home, just in case.

  • Moved up from a E520 (same sensor size, older tech) so sensor quality is much better and bokeh is on par.

  • Excellent lens. I acquired it with the pancake 14-42mm (good quality but the motorized zoom is meh), the tele 40-150mm (150€ with bag included is just too much of a bargain) and the 25mm f1.8 (which is an awesome lens, crazy sharp even at f1.8 and a great fov imho).

  • Super Control Panel and great customization possibilities

  • Awesome touch to focus&shooot from the touchscreen (also awesome)

  • Awesome WIFI functionality (control the camera with live preview and touch to shoot, share with social media and so on)

  • Focus peaking and magnification are great for MF

  • Great build.

    Cons:

  • Bad battery life compared to a DSLR

  • Can't configure the EVF+LCD to work like a DSLR (both off until you put your eye on the EVF). Hopefully Olympus can change this with a firmware upgrade but OM-1 and EM-5 have the same issue so little hopes there.

  • Occasionally have to turn off and on, still have to check why (could be a setting I activated to spare energy).

  • Lens mount very tight on both the pancake and the 25mm.

  • Menu system can be a little confusing.

  • APS-C sensors & full frame may perform a little better (or 2 stops better for full frames) on low light

  • Not so many lenses (but the primes are excellent) as Nikon or Canon mounts

  • C-AF tracking is poor at least at maximum burst.


    All in all I can say it's a great camera system so far very good value for my money. I enjoy a lot using it and it can take great shots, specially when coupled with a nice prime lens.
