Ok you HAVE to get this book: One Night Wilderness Portland.

I live by this book. It has located so many accessible and beautiful backpacking trips for me. The directions are very clear and the trail descriptions are spot on so you never feel lost. He clearly locates the best camping spots, locates springs to get water and includes an accurate map for each trail.

And these are not Crazy 5 days extreme backpacking trips. These are trips you can do as just an overnighter to get your feet wet till your more ready to do a long trip. I like them cause I don't get a lot of time off work and I can do these over the weekend.

On of my fav trails so far in the book is High Camp on Mt Adams.

This book will be your backpacking bible!

I haven't researched many coast backpacking trips, but I have been using this book to help me plan some quick mountain excursions. They have the hikes sorted in both location and difficulty so an easy coast hike would be easy to find.

That being said the Oregon Coast is difficult to backpack, mainly because so much of it can be accessed by car.
