I use Eagle Creek compression packing cubes. The larger one fits horizontally almost perfectly in the bottom portion of my GR2 34L, the smaller on fits directly above it with some room to spare on the side (I usually cram something like a light windbreaker in that area for quick access). The fit is nearly perfect.

Depending on how you pack you can essentially put two sets of these on top of each other, e.g. one set completely full and packed to the brim, another about half full to take up the entire volume of the main compartment.

Superior to GR packing cubes because:

  1. They fit;
  2. They compress;
  3. They come in non-black colors so you can see what's going on inside your bag;
  4. Much cheaper.

    Edit: you can also buy the non-compressing ones since zipping up the GR2 essentially compresses things for you. I've found that the Eagle Creek ones when crammed to the max and compressed form a sort of elliptical shape so you end up with some unused volume.
