You want something with a firefly mode. A typical firefly will be well under a lumen with an intensity low enough that you can hold it inches away from your eye without any problems. And you'll want it to either always come on in firefly (no memory) or have a direct shortcut. Looking at the lights with firefly under $30 I would go with the $16 Thrunite Ti5T in neutral white. (Thrunite's other 1xAAA lights would also qualify since none of them have memory, but this one has a tail switch and is titanium! If I sound enthusiastic, it is because I have one and really like it.)

It can use rechargeable NiMH AAAs.

I recommend the Manker E02H with the Nichia LED, and a pack of Eneloop AAA batteries with a charger. I'm just assuming you're in the US and Amazon is a good option. If not, let me know.

Here are 48 flashlights that fit your requirements.

I suggest the BLF 348 and a rechargeable NiMH AAA battery. You'll need to buy the batteries and charger separately (Eneloops and Amazon Basics are good brands), but you'll be well under your $100 limit.

This flashlight is great because it's bright, but also has a really nice beam; much better than any of the ones you have listed already. It is single mode though.

Do it! You won’t regret it. I read from someone, can’t remember at the moment, that eneloop was good and I bought this.

So far it’s working pretty good. But do your research first. 😊

Edit: I remember now! u/iBeFloe said it. Giving credits where they belong. Thank you for the recommendation by the way. 😝😉

Several options that I would recommend. The basic batteries you'll find for EDC (Every Day Carry) are the 18650, CR123a, AA, and AAA. In general most of us in here will recommend that instead of standard AA and AAA you use rechargeable Eneloops instead (fully interchangeable with regular batteries typically).

18650 lights will be MUCH brighter and have a MUCH longer runtime than AA lights (about 2x brighter and 3x the runtime on some).

AA lights will be easier to carry, 18650 lights are not super practical for pocket carry unless you REALLY want to.

That being said, the BLF A6 (or the Astrolux S1 - same light basically) is probably your best budget and quality entrance into 18650 lights.

If you drop the 18650 in favor of easier to carry, the Thrunite T10 is a single AA(rechargable Eneloops for me)/14500(lithium rechargable) that's cheap (also available in Titanium)

If you want a light with more color, the Klarus Mi7 is awesome and also accepts 14500 batteries (AA sized lithium rechargeables with more power), but make sure you choose one that EXPLICITLY shows a clip in the pictures, some of the colors on Amazon don't.

Stepping up from that, the Olight S1R is a little sexier, and still smaller than an 18650

For AAA, I'd recommend the Lumintop Tool in either Titanium, Copper, or Black(there is also a Brass one available in limited quantities on Tuesday).

Any of these would be good initial lights, but for front-pocket carry, and 18650 is pretty bulky.

Lastly I'd recommend adding a 10180 light to your keys regardless of which light you go with, one such as this Wuben that I just picked up. AMAZING little keychain light that's by far the handiest light I've bought.

As for your want of a gun light. What makes a good EDC light and a good gun light are totally different. Some companies make both, but the models are usually vastly different.

What about a Thrunite Ti4? Two AAA (pick up some good NiMH batteries-- Eneloops or rewraps), with a nice moonlight mode and adequate low for searching bags without blinding people. Also has a 250 lumen high and strobe (might be useful for directing). It's about the same thickness as a AA battery, and pen length at 5.5 inches long. Neutral white would be recommended over cool white for better color identification-- especially for your use case.

You can get some batteries and charger, and the light with a sweet titanium body for about $55. Or the light direct from Thrunite in black with shipping for about the same.

idk if i had some kind of interference with mine, but I had to stop using this because it would randomly stop moving the cursor for 1-2 seconds.

Either way, if you buy this, also buy this so you can swap batteries easily instead of waiting for it to charge: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-K-KJ17M3A4BA-Battery-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B010U57MSW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492775652&sr=8-3

The charging cord is thicker than most mouse cords, you can use it like a wired mouse when it's charging but I wouldn't suggest it.

I have a G602 mouse now. I've been using Eneloop rechargeable batteries for about ten years now. They are excellent quality, very reliable, and last a good long time. Get the charger and four batts. By the way, the charger charges both AAA and AA batts.
