I think that 1440p 144hz would be a better choice especially when you mentioned that you prefer quality over ultra high fps. 1080p 240hz would be a good choice if your main goal would be focusing on some fast paced online shooters like CS:GO, Overwatch, etc. You should be good with that 390 on a 1440p 144hz until Navi arrives. Additionally Freesync will still be providing you with a smooth gameplay experience even if in some games you won't be able to hold a stable 60fps (on your current GPU) and considering that you're upgrading your GPU every 4-6 years - yep, Freesync will matter to you more than you probably think ;).

I'm also thinking about getting a new monitor for a Zen2+Navi based build in ~mid 2019 and my preferences are basically almost the same as yours with that focus on quality rather than 200+ fps and GPU upgrade cycle (every 4-6 years).

I'm kinda eyeing Nixeus EDG 27 and Pixio PX277h. Both are IPS, EDG 27 (from what i have heard and read) has really good (one of the best) Freesync implementation (in comparison to the most 1440p 144hz monitors) and PX277h additionally has HDR + quite thin bezel. That PX277h as of right now seems like THE perfect '1440p 144hz IPS HDR Freesync' monitor, but sadly it's only available in the US. Here's hoping that Pixio will make their monitors available to the rest of the world before Navi gets released heh.

Edit: Generally 1440p 144hz is a sweet spot right now. Nicely balanced with that high refresh rate and good resolution between 1080p 240hz and 4k 60hz stuff. Once you go 144hz (or higher) - you're never coming back to 60/75hz

$20(+tax in some states) more on Amazon if you want that piece of mind for returns. You might need to pay return shipping/a small fee though for them.

Oh, this is an awesome starting place. Can definitely play with this a little bit, as you left room for upgrades like more ram or a different keyboard.

Never heard of Pixio monitors before, and the one you have here at $419 is also sold by them on Amazon and currently listed at $399. I'm checking reviews on the brand, but that might be a jump-on-it-now price.

Also didn't know about FreeSync and G-Sync before looking up some of that monitors details. Looks like the AMD vs nVidia card "gardens" have grown farther apart since that last time I worked on building together hardware back in 2010 or so.

Even if this monitor cites a 1ms response time, with the input lag in mind its going to be more than 1ms. I don't think you would notice the difference in response time unless you're a hardcore fps
or comptetitive gamer.

I personally would go for an IPS or AHVA monitor because I think the improvement in colors and viewing angles is more important than getting the highest fps per say. Even FPS games are going to feel better with a slightly worse response time but better colors/graphics.

As for the dell, its a good monitor, but you want to get it at the best buy site since its $350 there. Here is another TN option:

I personally bought this monitor: Mbest MB279QR144 for $310 from amazon. It does't have gsync but it has the same specs as some of the 500+ dollar monitors. This is typical for Korean A-- panels.

If you are willing to spend more for a top notch monitor the acer predator (normally 800 bucks) is on sale for 519. If you have the cash to spare, this is a really good deal.

Sorry, looks like they raised the price, I was saying that off the top of my head. https://www.amazon.com/Pixio-Display-Professional-Adaptive-Sync-Monitor/dp/B07CYRF58V

I haven’t bought it yet so I can’t tell you from a users perspective but I was looking at the Pixio PX277h (https://www.amazon.com/Pixio-Display-Professional-Adaptive-Sync-Monitor/dp/B07CYRF58V)

u/smiller24 · 1 pointr/PCBuilds

I would recommend this. I have this exact model and i love it. the colors are amazing. seriously once you use an IPS panel you cant go back to the regular ones. Actually even the cheaper version of the pixio, the 269.99 one uses a hybrid. its not an IPS but its not a TN either. My brother has that one and i honestly can tell the difference in our monitors only slightly in certain situations during game.

This is a solid one I've found, but still not ready to pull the trigger. Need to do more research!!

You could go with the Pixio PX277h and have the best of both worlds, with Freesync instead of Gsync though.

Legitimate question- Is there any reason I would want to get this monitor besides the G-Sync, eye tracking, and the extra 15hz over the monitor linked below:

https://www.amazon.com/Pixio-Display-Professional-Adaptive-Sync-Monitor/dp/B07CYRF58V

The Monitor I linked is only 144hz instead of 165hz but it also has HDR and is $100 cheaper.

u/p_pal2000 · 0 pointsr/Monitors

Not sure why people say they are super expensive like upwards of $600, I found this one for $309:

Pixio PX276 27 inch 144Hz 1ms WQHD 2560 x 1440 Wide Screen Bezel Less Display Professional 1440p AMD Radeon FreeSync Certified Gaming Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079GN819B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_F4d4BbXSEWF38

Of course it's entirely possible that this is a terrible monitor and even advertised as something it's not but I'd do some research on it before purchasing to see if it's the real deal.

That was a TN, here's the IPS one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CYRF58V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_F4d4BbXSEWF38?th=1&psc=1

For $419

The only replacement is I'd probably wait for better SSD's to drop (a lot of drops on /r/buildapcsales nowadays) preferable an m.2, and honestly skip on the GSync also skip on the 24" monitor size at 1440 (pref 27 1440P). Gsync isn't worth it, I'd take the Pixio PX277H
