Better than the Essential and around the level of the better Debut Carbon for less cost is the Canadian Fluance RT82 on sale for $335 CDN. The OM10 cartridge is just as good if not a bit better than the previous version 2M Red on the Carbon Debut and will sound the same. Pass on the older RT81 or RT80 since they lack the new speed sensor.

For the phono peamp:

  • If low on budget start with a Pyle PP999 $18 and upgrade to a better one later. It may be just as good as the one built into the Essential.
  • Or the better ART DJPRE II $69. Great price, same as in USA $69 USD.
  • Schiit Mani $129 USD, check for Canada price and shipping.
  • Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 $159 is similar to the Mani, both have selectable gain switches on the bottom.
