YOU DON'T ASK ME A GODDAMN THING I'M THE ONE WHO ASKS THE QUESTIONS HERE BUDDY
but yeah the name of the biography is truly inspired
I liked it but sometimes the author gets a bit highbrow for me and there's a lot of times in the book where he just straight up doesn't fuckin' even attempt to translate whatever french idiom is being used so then you're left to google the shit by yourself
also I think he oversimplifies ravel's life too much at times and because of that sometimes it's like it puts him in a really simplified portrait; or it doesn't really put him in a realistic light sometimes (at the very least I can't relate to it for those times anyways)
that's not really the biographer's fault though the dude's probably trying to do the best with what he's got and the rest he's kinda gotta make an educated guess, but those times are pretty apparent af when it happens
besides that it was fun to read about ravel and the shit he was up to back in the day, it's also a pretty good book for learning about ravel's influences and the people who were influenced by him/his contemporaries; I really liked reading the early parts about ravel's life because they're not as well-known and nearly had a bad case of the sads near the end of the book
as for instruments I play guitar and I'm pretty bad at it, I also play piano but I'm even worse at that
do you play any?
