Unfortunately, goofy doesn't feel right to me, but you're right, for those of us who ride in traffic, regular foot leaves a little to be desired.

Sometimes I ride with a friend who's goofy, and that's great - every time we come to an intersection, we've got eyes both ways, and we tell each other "clear" before we cross.

I got this wrist mirror and am experimenting with attaching it to my left elbow pad, to use for occasional checks on my "blind side": https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TAFVEGU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(You can also strap it 'round your wrist, obvs., but I don't want an extra piece of kit to have to put on before I ride).

I'm also experimenting with my stance - taking more of an alpine stance (basically, pointing your back foot more forward, instead of parallel to nose/tail) faces your body more forward.

The problem here is it seems like it's hard on my knee after a while, and more importantly, I feel like I have reduced control over the board - normally I have my back foot parallel to tail, all the way back right at the kick, and that feels super stable over rough pavement, plus I'm able to quickly turn/pivot, or slam the tail down for a fast stop. Pointing my back foot forward doesn't feel as "safe" to me, but maybe I'll get used to it with practice, or become better able to move my foot back to the other position quickly in emergencies.
