I think you're on the right track, but if the parents are strict an opaque organizer that fits in a drawer might be a better idea - for example, this one or this one. Out of sight, out of mind and all that. Plus, you can pass it off as "a bag". ;)
Also, a basic skincare routine is a good idea for everyone, but especially makeup users - at the very least, you need to take the makeup off at the end of the day.
