Its actually a fun process to replace the screen.
I did the same thing on my first replacement. This is the screen I ordered. Apparently you're supposed to take the cover from the old screen and put it over the notification light area on the new one. I really disliked the screen though. It seemed to crack much easier when I cracked it the second time, and it wouldn't recognize touches all the time. The second time, I ordered this screen. It doesn't come with any tools, but if you already have some you don't need any more. So far it's been better from what I can tell. There is a sticker that I think you're supposed to take off for the notification light, and I didn't realize it, so now my notification light is too dark (instead of too bright like yours and mine last time). So for future reference, or if you really want to fix it, that is the screen I would order.
As for returning the screen, I highly doubt you'll be able to do that, as the screen functions as intended; they just didn't make it obvious that you have to do something for the notification light area. You could try removing the screen and fixing it by putting something under it like a piece of black tape or something, but unless it really bothers you, I wouldn't risk breaking the screen again by trying to remove it.

That's about 40 bucks for the screen and here's a take apart guide.

IMO OP it's really easy. I've been doing it for years and used to do it for my friends. Problem for me is they glue the digitizer and LCD together anymore which ups the cost and deters people from seeking my service. ifixit has always been my go to source on these things and I guarantee if you follow the steps you'll be great.
why do you need the metal frame(isn't it hard plastic)? did you dent it good? you can buy the LCD and digitiser in one unit. i got this one. do a google search about the proximity sensor failing after you replace the screen. you can prevent it from happening by doing something during the replacing process(don't know what). after i replaced my screen, the sensor didn't work, but it was too difficult to remove the screen again so i had to live with the sensor not working(complete hassle). also, my replacement screen didn't settle flush with the sides of the frame. i think the tape was a tad bit too thick. i used the tape all the tutorials recommended. it would be best if there was some liquid adhesive, but i don't know where to look for that.
Thanks for the advice guys! Does anyone have a recommended replacement? I found a few on Amazon but they have both 5 and 1 star reviews.
I am split between this one:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HFMWZCC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AEQWZUC8629A0
