I actually (sort of) have one. I bought the Ringke Fusion (which has a TPU frame with an acrylic back panel) when I got my phone. And just today, I noticed that the seam between the TPU and acrylic was coming apart. So I carefully peeled them apart all the way, and now I have a kind of DIY bumper.
It's a bit of a loose fit, since the original design was relying on the stiff acrylic for structure, but it's not terrible either. I'll try it out for a few days to see if it works.
This is the case I have and I don't take it off to charge.

I don't know how well it would work with a thicker case but with this one it works fine.
