Just cheap lights from Amazon. The newest one is my favorite. Sometimes they go on sale.

Assuming you have this light, it doesn't seem to have any official PPFD specs, but one of the amazon reviews has these measurements:

> 330 micro moles at 4 inches
275 micro moles at 8 inches
192 micro moles at 12 inches

If you're unfamiliar with PPFD, think of it as brightness for plants (reading up on PAR/PPFD is helpful but not essential).

I wouldn't even try to grow a VFT with less than 200 (though 300 is preferred). And this is assuming a large photoperiod (16 hours a day or more). So that means that, to grow a VFT under this light, it would need to be 6 to 8 inches below the middle of the light. All this to say, a VFT would likely not be fine in the middle rack (unless the light was closer).

Also keep in mind that VFTs require a winter dormancy, which is triggered by a decreased photoperiod and lower temperatures. It's possible to grow them indoors (some people even put them in a refrigerator during the winter), but it's so much easier to leave them out in the sun.

I had to contend with a basement once upon a time, so nothing’s impossible. If you only have a north facing window, treat yourself to a couple of LED grow lights. I was skeptical until I tried them and was surprised they even brought out nice coloration of the leaves. They can supplement that north window you have. I use these:
