As for reading more about the era, how about just read the novel which started it all? It's not exactly history, but it's a historical novel which closely follow actual history. This is required reading in many schools: The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, or San Guo Yan Yi.

Sorry buddy but you will have to read the book :) Three bands. I read it twice but it took me a while to 'get it'. Seriously, the books make the GoT Fire & Ice novels look like children picture books in comparison.
