    Features:
  • CONVERT ANY HOT TUB TO A SALTWATER SYSTEM: This salt-based spa system produces a pure form of chlorine by electrolysis of natural salt (NaCl). Salt is converted to chlorine to do its work, then the chlorine recycles back to salt. The concentration of salt needed is small (less salinity than tears).
  • EFFECTIVE SANITATION: Produces chlorine from electrolysis of natural salt, for a sanitary hot tub experience. Test chlorine weekly; adjust timer accordingly for great results (don't exceed 3.0-4.0 PPM).
  • SIMPLE TO INSTALL: Plug in the controller above ground and out of water, while immersing the chlorinator cell in water. For hot tubs and swim spas up to 2000 gallons. Cell holder included, for storage while bathing.
  • ULTRA-LOW ENERGY CONSUMPTION: Built-in timer/controller with LED indicators. The titanium cell is the most reliable power system available. 6' (72 inch) power cord; 120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 0.2A. 12' (144 inch) cell cable; output: 5 VDC 2A. 1-year warranty. Replacement cells sold separately.
  • FOR YOUR HOT TUB SPA: Nothing else keeps your water clean like the Saltron MINI.

I think you're right to do it as cheaply as possible (while getting the features you actually care about). It's not a financial investment, but it is a quality of life improvement.

So re: salt system. I'm ALL ABOUT salt now with my above ground pool (and my previous inground pool at my old house). I'm adding the Saltron Mini Salt System to my existing Masterspa. It is $240. Plus like, $2 of salt. Admittedly, you have to take the little generator out when you use the tub... but that's sooooo much better than having to remember to add chlorine every week. Also going to be adding boric acid to get my borates to 40-50ppm.
