The Ziploc idea is best, but I also spray most of my gear and our shoes (especially the kids' stuff) with this stuff. It's not impenetrable, but it helps a lot with water resistance and stain protection. A full can lasts a while. It only took one to treat our giant stroller
I just grabbed a couple of yards of duck cloth from the local JoAnne's. (I really don't like to admit that I am the only man in there on my lunch break, it's kind of odd.) So I am not sure what the weight is. Pretty light, but it seems sturdy.
