I had the same issue after having the controller for over a couple of years.
Ended up buying the scuf pro grip handles.

The thumbsticks are nice but wore out really fast. They are a very soft rubber.

I got the black color, which doesn't seem to be available at the moment. Most of the negative reviews seem to be from the thumbsticks (I just use the originals) but the grips have been amazing.
Yeah. The whole kit is better than what the stock grips/sticks are grip wise. They also add a splash of color to the black/gray of the elite.
