I just bought the Sena 20S-01 off amazon it's amazing. Good quality on build and too many features for me to use!

Be extra careful the first few days, that's a mighty fine board for a beginner.

I'd say armor depends on your usage, my main usage is commuting, so I use a motorcycle jacket and stealth steel toe shoes (pads are just too much hassle as far as I'm concerned).

And certainly get a nice helmet. I went overboard with an APH-5 rigged with a Sena 20S.

The Sena 20S is a bit pricier but an awesome headset. Highly recommend.

A sena 10s or 20s is only $250 or in that ballpark.

Helmet Audio - where are all the options?

I've been snowboarding for 25 years, but finally picked up a helmet this year now that we're introducing our young kids to snowboarding. So after getting my helmet I started looking to see what was available for wireless (bluetooth) setups. I was expecting more options than what's out there.

The Outdoor Tech Chips 2.0 seem to be exactly what I'd like, but are more expensive than I expected. Other companies seem to just re-brand this item. There are a few wired options out there that then use a bluetooth adapter. And finally, there's many items intended for the motorcycle crowd, Sena, that is even more expensive and seems like overkill for a snowboarding setup.

What is everyone using? Sticking it out with Earbuds? I was hoping for an open ear setup so that I can hear those around me, but still have some tunes.

To start, the sound quality of your headphones was probably bad because you were using the wrong kind. This kind has a little gel cup that seals against outside noise pretty well. This kind has a rigid plastic shell that doesn't seal against anything, so air and outside noise easily make their way in.

Any speakers you put on probably won't have much clarity when you're riding, especially not at highway speeds. It won't be any better than your current headphones. Also, on a 250, you'll have a hard time finding space to mount speakers. Not impossible, but very difficult.

The best option here (IMO) would be to get a bluetooth headset for your helmet. I have a sena 20s; I can plug in my own headphones, and if I had a pillion I could use a splitter if they wanted to listen in, too.
