  1. It's only $7 off list.

  2. $7 more gets you faster read/write speeds: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L6DKM8V

But for reals, this is great, I'm just throwing things out there.

I think this would be a better deal:

Do note that the write speed is probably only about 2 GB/sec for this 512GB drive despite incorrect title description.

Seeing a lot of people questioning the point of drives like this, even if you can debate whether or not this is faster than any other 5400rpm HDD, it's currently the cheapest 2.5" 2TB drive I can find, regardless of SSHD or HDD.

Here's my use-case if you want an example of why this might be perfect for some people: I have an ITX build with a decent 500GB NVME drive running my OS and my frequently used games and programs, and I only have space for up to 2 more 2.5" drives.

I want to add at least 1TB of 2.5" storage for my music, photos, movies and rarely used games, so my options are: spend $120 on the cheapest 1TB SSD, $60 on the cheapest 1TB HDD, $100 on the cheapest 2TB HDD, or buy this 2TB hybrid drive for $85.

Even though I agree SSHD drives can be a bit of a noob-trap with questionable marketing claims, they're at least as fast as other 2.5" HDD's and this one is also cheaper, so it's a no-brainer to me. If anyone has a better solution around this price, please let me know

I just built a system with the r5 3600 and the stock cooler has been fine even with overclocking to 4.1ghz. This depends if your case has decent airflow. Maybe don't spend the money on a cpu cooler until you test out the stock cooler and determine if its worth the cost. The r5 3600 has a pretty low tdp of 65w and doesn't need crazy coolers like the old fx cpu's

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0143UM4TC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this ram is also pretty good for the price. I would rather have corsair than team force unless you really want the rgb

Also you might want to look at this ssd https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-512GB-Gen3x4-SU512GBP34A80M28AB/dp/B07L6DKM8V/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=silicon+power+m2&qid=1574562671&sr=8-4 Around the same price but way faster speed. 3gb per second vs 500mbs. Seems like pcie ssd are only a bit more expensive than Sata ssd which is weird as they are way better speed.

For $108, you can get an NVMe drive rather than a SATA drive for your main boot drive. Options include Silicon Power P34A80 NVMe drive 512GB for $97 from Amazon. It does ship from the US, so it will take a little longer to get here. Corsair MP510 is another option in that price range.

What type of storage really depends on your use case. If you're writing. If you plan on using it for windows, your applications and having a few games staying on there, then the NVMe option is easily stronger. If you plan on regularly re-writing data on the disk (like copying/transferring 300GB files 10 times a day) then the endurance of the 860 Evo is better.

I went for this one for 10 dollars more Silicon Power 512GB ( 5 years warranty says on the box) NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 TLC R/W up to 3,400/2,300 MB/s SSD (SU512GBP34A80M28AB) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07L6DKM8V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JsZRDb3SNX8NY

> Silicon Power

Oh right, the Silicon Power A80 is the same price as the Sabrent Rocket, with R/W speeds 3400/2300 at that size.

u/internets_friend · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For a couple bucks more, you'll get better speed and easier installation on an NVME drive like https://www.amazon.ca/Silicon-Power-512GB-Gen3x4-SU512GBP34A80M28AB/dp/B07L6DKM8V/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=nvme+ssd&qid=1567338031&s=gateway&sprefix=Nvme&sr=8-12

Also, is there a reason you're going with a mATX board instead of regular ATX? I'd probably change that to ATX as well.

Another benefit of going Ryzen here is that you can drop the aftermarket cpu cooler as the ones that come with 2700 and 2700x are both great (2700x slightly better).

While I'm here I can recommend an upgrade for the SSD to Silicon Power 512GB NVMe. Same 59$ price but without the rebate and its a nvme drive that trades blows with a samsung 970 evo.

Oh and don't forget to switch the mobo to one compatible with ryzen. this reddit thread has a spreadsheet/img with great info about the quality of mobos when it comes to OCing. Even if you don't plan to OC ryzen cpus will boost themselves so having a better mobo can help there.

Between the mobo and the cpu cooler you should save a good amount. Could even bump up to a 2070 if you were so inclined!

u/RGB_IS_STUPID · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

1tb sata ssd is a for $84 and a 512gb nvme drive for $65 if you do not end up finding anything here.

u/DoctarSwag · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You could grab a cheaper SSD such as the just as good MX500 for $30 less or a better NVMe SSD for $20 less. I would probably choose the MX500 since NVMe won't really benefit you

u/dvaldes409 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Absolutely, anything with a phison e12 controller is usually as fast as the more expensive ones while being really competitive on the price. I'll link some in 500-512gb since that's around what size SSD you chose.

Silicon Power 512GB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 TLC R/W up to 3,400/2,300MB/s SSD (SU512GBP34A80M28AB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L6DKM8V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pkQhDbCZMQFKW

The Corsair mp510 and myDigitalssd bpx pro use the same controller, I believe there might be another one or two drives that utilize it. All these are around 3000 MB/s vs a regular sata3 SSD max out around 500

The one I linked is 59 bucks for a 512gb drive

Silicon Power 500GB NVMe - 90$

i just ordered the 1TB version this weekend (hasn't arrived). it has DRAM and is the same hardware as the Corsair MP510. Seems to have good reviews. its not as fast as a Samsung 970 or WD SN750, but still much quicker than a SATA drive.

just be aware for your motherboard if using an M.2 will disable other PCIe slots or SATA ports. save you some troubleshooting later.

u/96Ghost · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

it's not a bad buy at all, but For $10 less you could have gotten this silicon power E12 NVMe a few days ago, and atm you can get it for $75,
although in normal usage you wouldn't notice much of a difference, the E12 (like the silicon power that was posted) drives have much better sustained write and also much higher TBW rating
personally i prefer them overall and other E12 drives most probably will drop to $65 again, so if you're not in a hurry I'd recommend waiting for those or getting them now for $75-80,
but really you can't go wrong with either drive
no idea about warranties though

I ended up going through the same thing except I had some cheap leftover SSDs I was using for a 3 node vsan all flash cluster and wanted to get something for cache tier that was a little faster and had more write endurance. After a lot of research, I ended up going with a Silicon Power 512GB NVMe SSD and getting a NVMe to PCIe adapter card for my HP DL360 G7. Silicon Power 512GB NVMe M.2 PCIe... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L6DKM8V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I picked that as it had decent performance, had no manufacture specified write endurance so it is under warranty for the full 3 or 5 years it was and was pretty cheap. I am trying it out in one of my hosts before pulling the trigger on the other 2 or might try a crucial drive as well.

Mainly, that drive was very cheap for the performance and alleged write endurance and warranty.

I am also interested in this thread and open to suggestions for cache drives for HomeLab use as well.

I'd recommend getting a $80 512GB m.2 nvme ssd( if your MOBO supports m.2) for your OS and your most played games. The speed means often the game loads much faster and your computer boots substantially faster. Then use that $100 hdd (7200rpm cuz 5400rpm is slower than a snail) for storage like all files that you don't care about getting open as fast as possible.

Edit:
There's this 500 GB ssd for ~$70

No, you should use the one I already linked in my prior post. Here it is again: https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-512GB-Gen3x4-SU512GBP34A80M28AB/dp/B07L6DKM8V/

The one you linked is a different controller and is only PCIe 3x2, this is 3x4 (4 channels) and as such significantly faster. The other one is an older drive.

As far as installation, it's trivial. Easier than the SATA SSD you originally linked. No cables. Literally slide it into a slot on the motherboard, press it down, and use a single screw to hold it. Done.
