Sorry, I'm not rocking my tin foil hat here; what's your rationale for assuming that they're direct supplying resellers and that those guys aren't just clean up the inventory of local stores when they get new stock in (which is ridiculously easy to do)?

There's no actual evidence to suggest that the completion rate is artificially lower due to the perception that people are holding off until they get traps aside from that post and maybe one or two others. The rates for getting the final trophy are in line with PS3 SSA's and a fairly negligible drop over SSF's PS4 completion amount (~25% vs ~30%).

All wave 2.5 boxes that have been showing up to TRU have 2 Kaos traps in them, so the only reason why you should be able to get an undead hand or earth hourglass easier is because they have them in the new 8-packs (which are a pretty great deal @ $40, all things considered). Does your Best Buy have any of the other 2.5 traps? If so, then that means the scalpers cleaned them out.

Amazon hasn't had any of the 2.5 stuff directly available outside of the 8 packs (which explains the markup on stuff like Grim Gripper), so even though they offered the Kaos trap on 1 Nov, ever since 5 Nov, the scalpers have been taking advantage of the relatively limited supply.

In my area, TRU gets their new stock on the shelves Saturday night for the Sunday morning rush. Not sure if that holds true for other areas, but that's when the collectors and resellers hit the stores up. Emailing random individuals directly is a great way to get added to a spam filter. Activision has a support account that posts here and that's as good of a contact as you'll ever find.

Maybe the scarcity is tied to a period of exclusivity with TRU on 2.5 boxes in lieu of more legendary figures on this game? That would make more sense than believing that Activision is supplying resellers on the backchannel.
