The coolness is it has software that caches your pen strokes (with pressure levels) so you can roll back strokes in a sketch.
The flies in the ointment are the mini ballpoint refills - no price given; the batteries involved (removable in the pen, but not so clear on the clip on unit); clip to a rigid surface; and 200 FRIGGIN DOLLARS.
If you want to capture pen strokes, i.e. text, look at the APen. Cheapest version 80 bucks, other versions that link to a black berry or iPad http://www.apenusa.com/products.asp
Livescribe requires special paper, so you are locked in. And it is designed for text capture. So are most of the others out there:
